ABOUT ARTIST
Tania Pogorelsky was born in 1946 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg).
In 1973 she graduated from the St. Petersburg Theater Academy (MA), department of scenography.
In parallel, for a year she studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute.
Since 1970, she has worked as a stage designer in Russian drama theaters (Severo-Dvinsk Drama Theatre, Krasnoyarsk Drama Theatre, Pskov Drama Theatre, Frunze Drama Theatre, Volgograd Drama Theatre, “Lensoviet” Drama Theatre).
Since 1980 she has been engaged in book graphics.
In the 80s and 90s she participated in non-conformist exhibitions of the Association of Experimental Art in St. Petersburg (TEII).
From 2000 to 2007, she directed the “Judaic Motives” studio at the Jewish Arts and Crafts Center in St. Petersburg.
In 1999, Tanya, in collaboration with I. Dvorkin, A. Rokhlin and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, organized a group of Russian Jewish artists “Pgishot,” which took part in several university conferences and exhibitions.
In 2001, 2002, 2003, Tanya takes part in expeditions to places related to the history of Eastern European Jewry – a joint project of the St. Petersburg Hebrew University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. As a result of these expeditions, an exhibition was held at the City Hall of Jerusalem and the Hebrew University.
Since 1996, Tanya has been participating in the Moscow-Jerusalem international plein-air workshops held in Russia and Israel.
The works of Tania Pogorelsky are in the Museum of Fine Arts in Vilnius, in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, in the Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow, as well as in private collections in the USA, Russia, Germany, Holland, England and Israel.
Since 2008, Tania Pogorelsky lives and works in Maale Adumim, Israel.
